How to Care for Your New Window Tint
Proper care is essential for maintaining the appearance and performance of your window tint. Follow these guidelines to protect your investment.
The First 3-5 Days: Curing Period
Your new tint needs time to cure properly. During this period:
DO:
- Keep windows rolled up at all times
- Park in shade when possible
- Be patient with any haziness or bubbles
DON'T:
- Roll down windows
- Clean the windows
- Use the defroster on tinted windows
Small bubbles or haziness is normal during curing. These will disappear as the film dries completely.
What not to do after tinting car windows
Avoid heavy scrubbing, ammonia-based cleaners, and any stickers or decals during the first week. The film and adhesive are still stabilizing, so give it time before any deep cleaning or accessories.
Cleaning Your Tinted Windows
When to Start
Wait at least 7 days after installation before the first cleaning.
What to Use
- Ammonia-free glass cleaner
- Soft microfiber cloth
- Clean water
What to Avoid
- Ammonia-based cleaners (Windex, etc.)
- Abrasive materials or paper towels
- Razor blades or scrapers
Step-by-Step Cleaning Guide
- Spray cleaner onto the microfiber cloth, not directly on the glass
- Wipe in straight lines, not circles
- Use light pressure to avoid scratching
- Dry immediately with a clean, dry microfiber cloth
- Check for streaks and repeat if necessary
Seasonal Care Tips
Summer
- Use a sunshade when parked
- Consider ceramic tint for maximum heat rejection
- Check for bubbling or peeling
Winter
- Avoid ice scrapers on tinted surfaces
- Use defroster carefully
- Clean salt spray promptly
How to maintain window tint for the long term
Clean monthly with an ammonia-free cleaner, keep microfiber towels on hand, and avoid abrasive tools. If you notice light scuffs, gentle polishing may help, but window tint scratch repair often requires professional evaluation to avoid making the damage worse.
